Kuruvadweep or Kuruva Island is a 950-acre protected river delta. It comprises three densely wooded uninhabited islands and a few submergible satellite islands, which lies on the banks of the tributaries of Kabini River in the Wayanad district, Kerala, India.
Vythiri, a beautiful locale in Wayanad, is famous for its spice plantations, beautiful forests and the diverse traditions of its tribal communities. It is among the best picnic spots in the entire State.
Banasura Sagar Dam, which impounds the Karamanathodu tributary of the Kabini River, is part of the Indian Banasurasagar Project consisting of a dam and a canal project started in 1979. Situated about 15 km from Kalpetta, the dam holds a large expanse of water and its picturesque beauty is enhanced by the chain of mountains seen on the backdrop. It is constructed in the Banasura Lake and the nearby mountains are known as Banasura Hills. Legends say that the Asura king of Banasura, (the son of King Mahabali, who is believed to visit Kerala during every Onam festival) undertook a severe penance on the top of these hills and thus it was named after him. The scenic mountains beckon adventure tourists and the dam site is an ideal starting point for trekking.
The Edakkal caves are two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal, 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala in India's Western Ghats. They lie 1,200 m above sea level on Ambukutty Mala, near an ancient trade route connecting the high mountains of Mysore to the ports of the Malabar coast.
Pookkot Lake is a natural freshwater lake surrounded by evergreen forest and rolling hills. A freshwater aquarium with a large variety of fish is an added attraction. Tourists can also avail of boating facilities, a children's park, and a shopping centre for handicrafts and spices. Wayanad lies at an altitude varying from 700 - 2,100 metres above the sea level. The district has the highest number of tribal settlements in Kerala. The hill ranges of Vythiri taluk (taluk is a subdivision of a district), through which the road from Kozhikode ascends the Wayanad plateau over the mind boggling bends and ridges, are the highest locations of Wayanad district.
Surrounded by the Kambamala, Karimala and the Varadiga peaks, the Thirunelly temple embodies traditional Kerala architecture. A famous pilgrim centre, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple, located at Mananthavady, attracts devotees especially for performing ancestral rites. The shrine protected with 30 granite columns and the ground is paved with huge square pieces of granite. Nestled among mountains and forests, the temple is close to the mountain spring, Papanashini. Karlad Lake, located 16 km from Kalpetta town of Wayanad district of Kerala State in Southern India is formed two centuries ago after a landslide in the area. Spread across 11 acres, the lake sets against a very green landscape, offering plenty of opportunities for adventure activities. The lake, situated in Thariyod Panchayath was once devoid of any tourism activities. After a masterplan in 1998, basic facilities and gardens were built and now it has become a hub for adventure activities. The place is a relatively new destination in Wayanad and it is quite small compared to its nearby larger cousin, Pookode Lake.
